Thailand Blog :: bananas

Fasting in Bangkok has proved difficult, mainly because I do it at the worst times (volunteering at a hostel) and due to the fact that if I go out there's fruit and juices everywhere! I'm always tempted and I allow it to play on my mind so much that it affects my dreams.

For example, Wednesday night I dreamt about bananas. Seriously, my dream was about bananas. I was eating the small lady finger bananas that are so sweet. I'm pretty sure I had more than one dream about bananas. I haven't even eaten bananas for perhaps 2 weeks! So I went out yesterday morning and bought some of Thailand's special apple bananas, organic and sweet. So sweet in fact I think I'm eating sugar!

I think bananas are a superb fruit even though people say it's hybrid this and that. I love to try new varieties but my favourites are red, lady fingers and apple (or ice cream) bananas. I want to start eating more bananas again throughout the week.

I am so grateful that I've been able to try these varieties in their home country. To taste sweet, ripe bananas fresh from the tree. I appreciate nature and all that she provides.

Shoptastic Saturday

I have been to the wholesale markets in Manchester more recently so I've not been keeping a record of my shop due to storing it at Steven's.

This week we got some really red and ripe tomatoes for £3 for 5kg, the tastiest I've had. Bananas are also really hard to get cheap due to a crop disease so they're £17 a box. I've been going to Aldi and buying two boxes from there instead at 69p/kg (16kg boxes).

Courgettes have been around £3.50-£4 for 5kg and I bought the most gorgeous round lettuces for £3.

I'll be going to the Liverpool market next weekend, I shall report on that next week so stay tuned.

Shoptastic Saturday

Today I went to New Smithfield Market in Manchester. You wouldn't believe how expensive they were selling bananas for!

My purchases today were:

Fruit
Bananas - 2 repacked boxes around 18kg each - £16
Barari Kimia Dates - 12 x 600g boxes - £5

Total spend = £21.00

The bananas are still in my car. They were the cheapest going by far. The boxes are repackaged, I have no idea why. I bought two organic boxes, but due to the fact they're being sold as repackaged I have no idea if they actually are. This was the best I could do, the other sellers were quoting £14-£18 for a box. I'd never pay that! If that's your best offer I suggest going to Aldi.

If you're going to Manchester market you should check out Barton & Redman Ltd they are in block C unit 6/7.

The dates were bought from one of the Asian stalls in block B. There are few in that block so you cannot miss it. I'm splitting this box with Steven and we're going back tomorrow for the public car boot sale. There are 2 fruit stalls on Sunday and they sell another variety of dates for £5 too. I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Tasty Tuesday

I have been enjoying my breakfast smoothies recently because they've been berry delicious :-) I tend to have 1.2kg bananas and then a handful of mixed berries. The colour is a really deep pink and the taste is sweet, for a small amount of berries it doesn't taste like bananas at all.

I've been having at least 5 different fruits a day too. During September/October I had been on banana island. I had bananas for breakfast, lunch and dinner, followed by a salad or sometimes replacing bananas for dinner with a cooked meal. I think the lack of variety for a long period did not help me in some ways (lack of enthusiasm for eating only bananas), but since buying more fruit varieties I have been feeling excited about eating.

I started having B12 shots in October and then I got an outbreak of spots on my face, chest and back. Not sure what caused it, but the spots are still around. One good thing I have noticed a lot more recently is that my skin feels silkier than normal and although I have spots on my face, it looks healthy.

Bananas are great, hands down, but I think sometimes you can exhaust a particular food. Now I really appreciate my banana smoothies and I look forward to getting up for one after my morning jog.

I haven't taken a recent photo, but I shall update the post tomorrow.

Fruit it up everyday!

Much love

Tasty Tuesday

Welcome to Tasty Tuesday

Today I'll talk about bananas.

The photo shows ripe bananas, they're spotty, soft and smell sweet. Do not eat them any other way else you'll have problems. Bananas like this clear you out not bung you up ;-) These are so tasty you won't want anything else!

Eat bananas and feel the joys. Uplift your spirit and feel at one with nature (preferably eating outside!)

 Much love

Wishful Wednesday

Welcome to Wishful Wednesday!

Today I am wishing for ripe fruit 24/7.

Packing bananas in the hand luggage going to Turkey! We got asked at security "don't Turkey have bananas?" Well yes, they do but if we didn't take these with us they'd go to waste (plus they're expensive in Turkey compared to UK)
I pretty much self sabotaged my raw streak because I didn't properly plan my food supplies, a mistake that caused me two days of stomach pains and a horrible feeling in my throat.

I am so glad my bananas are ripe enough to eat. People question whether I get fed up eating bananas (I eat around 30 a day). When I first started I was so sick of bananas I didn't eat them for weeks but I cannot even go one day without them now, they are my everything.

Due to my mistake I now wish for ripe fruit to be available to me any time of day, whenever I need it.

I am writing this from my acting class so I will edit it tomorrow. (Edited)

Much love
